Lpez GCS Principal Christopher Lopez
Christopher Lopez has been named principal for Gonzales Community School for the 2020-21 school year. Most recently, he served as assistant principal for Gonzales.  For nine  years he was the school’s English Language Arts teacher, and worked as assistant principal during the 2019-20 school year.  Mr. Lopez holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Bachelor of Science in History, a Master of Science in Education and a Doctor of Jurisprudence and has attended Eastern New Mexico University, the University of New Mexico (UNM) and the UNM School of Law.

He returned to Santa Fe after college to raise his family due to his love of the area and a desire to give back to the community that shaped him.  His mission through education is to engage and lead youth in realizing that they are the masters of their own destiny and can achieve beyond what they dream is possible.  He loves basketball and football, and has coached both sports at Gonzales.  He is the father of two children--a daughter who will be a high school freshman next school year and a sixth-grade student at Gonzales.  His wife is also a teacher.  The family includes their dog,  Melvin.

“We are so pleased to welcome Christopher Lopez as Gonzales Community School’s new principal.  With his extensive experience at Gonzales, he will quickly take the helm and provide outstanding service to the school’s culturally rich community,” said Superintendent Dr. Veronica C. Garcia.  “His 21 years of educational experience and deep understanding of project-based learning will bring vitality to the school’s creative teaching methods, which are designed to ensure student engagement and high academic achievement,” she said.
